DocumFest is a new International Documentary Film Festival, organized in Timisoara, Romania. The event has two categories: Creative Documentary and journalistic TV Documentary spotting the relationship between these genres and creating interesting debates on this issue. The festival supports the concept of diversity and informs the publics on new ways of approaching authenticity. The coordinators of this cultural project sustain the production of documentaries on kids and teen concerns, as well as films made by students. Every year, the organizers suggest one theme, but any topic is welcome. A special award is given for movies that deal with the proposed subject. As 2008 is the European year of Intercultural Dialogue participators were given the chance to illustrate this issue.
The year 2009 will focus on Revolutions in Eastern Europe, as a remembrance of 20 years since the events that took place in 1989. At the first edition of the festival, from the beginning of November this year, a professional jury chose from more than 183 movies, sent from 30 countries. The Great Prize was won by Meelis Muhu with the film “Aliosha”.
